Students

In this section, you will find information relating to students working with children as part of their studies.

To obtain more information please see Factsheet for Tertiary Institutions, Placement Providers & Students.

Which students will need to have a WWC Check?

Students aged over 18 years will need to have a WWC Check when their course requires them to carry out practical training that brings them into contact with a child in connection with one of the categories of child- related work.

Who is the employer?

The WWC Screening Unit accepts that the ‘employer’ is both the placement provider and the educational institution at which the student is studying.  Both are able to complete the relevant section (employer declaration) on the application form.  However, it is more common for the educational institution to complete the form.

How does a student apply for WWC Check and what is the cost?

Students are treated the same as volunteers and will pay the $10 fee.  To find out how to apply click here.

Please note: Students will also need to refer to the section relating to Volunteers, and their employers will need to look at the section entitled
Employers & Volunteer Co-ordinators. This will aid you in understanding your responsibilities and obligations under the Act.
