Volunteers & Students: Important Points
Important Points all Volunteers Should Know
- The WWC Check is only valid in Western Australia. Other States have their own legislation and criminal record checking procedures.
- The WWC Check is different to the National Police Check. Find out how.
- If you applied for a WWC Check as a volunteer and are now starting paid work you do not need to re-apply, and vice versa.
- When you need to apply for a WWC Check depends on the age of the children you are working with.
- Some volunteers may be exempt from applying for a WWC Check. Please refer to Factsheet 5: Child-related work and exemptions.
- If you are exempt from applying for a WWC check, then your employer/volunteer organisation cannot insist that you apply. You must not apply for a WWC Check if you are exempt.
- You can only apply for a WWC Check once you have an agreement with an organisation to be a volunteer in child-related work. You cannot apply for a WWC Check before you are successful in gaining a volunteer position that involves child-related work.
