Volunteers & Students: Important Points

Important Points all Volunteers Should Know

  1. The WWC Check is only valid in Western Australia. Other States have their own legislation and criminal record checking procedures.
  2. The WWC Check is different to the National Police Check. Find out how.
  3. If you applied for a WWC Check as a volunteer and are now starting paid work you do not need to re-apply, and vice versa.
  4. When you need to apply for a WWC Check depends on the age of the children you are working with.
  5. Some volunteers may be exempt from applying for a WWC Check. Please refer to Factsheet 5: Child-related work and exemptions.
  6. If you are exempt from applying for a WWC check, then your employer/volunteer organisation cannot insist that you apply. You must not apply for a WWC Check if you are exempt.
  7. You can only apply for a WWC Check once you have an agreement with an organisation to be a volunteer in child-related work. You cannot apply for a WWC Check before you are successful in gaining a volunteer position that involves child-related work.
