Privacy & Confidentiality
Information obtained about a person’s criminal record is strictly confidential, stored securely and used only for the purposes of the WWC legislation. There are strong penalties for people who breach these confidentiality requirements.
Employers will not receive any information about your criminal record.
If you are issued with an Interim Negative Notice or a Negative Notice, and if it is in the public interest, the following public authorities may also be told about your Negative Notice:
- Department for Child Protection
- Department of Health
- Department of Transport
- WA College of Teaching
- WA Police
In some situations, the Working with Children Screening Unit will disclose information to authorities in other states who perform a similar function to the Unit – for example, the Queensland Commission for Children, Young People and Child Guardian, which is responsible for Working with Children Checks and the ‘Blue Card’ for people who work with children in that State.
