WWC Legislation
The Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 was passed by State Parliament on 26 November 2004, and was proclaimed on 1 January 2006. The Act introduces compulsory criminal record checks known as the Working with Children Check (WWC Check) – for certain people working with children in Western Australia.

Working with Children Checks commenced on 1 January 2006 and are being phased-in over five years. By the end of 2010, all new and existing employees, volunteers and self-employed people in child-related work will be required to have a Working with Children Check.
